Natural Paint Workshop

1-day Natural Paint Workshop at Taproot Farm – Capon Bridge, WV

Beth and Tim Reese are hosting a  workshop to learn how to make your own natural, non-toxic, durable paints    

Saturday April 28, 2012    9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Join us for one in a series of workshops  to build “Querencia”, a strawbale/cob artist studio at Taproot Farm. Querencia is a whimsical, earth-friendly oasis designed to nurture the inner “creative”. .

Taproot Farm is a 20-acre  farm overlooking the Cacapon River.  The “green” buildings include solar panels, geothermal heating/cooling and a living roof.  Currently, at the farm, there are laying chickens, lambs, bees, pigs, ½ acre organic vegetable garden, orchard and, soon, a fish pond. Participants will be invited to enjoy relaxing farm and river activities to celebrate each day of building.

When: Saturday, April 28   9:00 AM-6:00 PM (with a break for lunch and dinner at the end)

Where: Capon Bridge, WV (90 miles west of Washington, D.C)

Cost: $65 (includes instruction and hands-on experience with natural building guru Sigi Koko; 2 healthy meals.)

DESCRIPTION:

Natural Paints have been used for centuries to create beautiful, colorful interior and exterior coatings.  Paints can be made using all sorts of common, non-toxic ingredients. We will learn to make several home-made paints, including lime washes & clay paints.

WORKSHOP FORMAT:

We will begin in the morning with an overview of natural paints and the purpose of each ingredient. We will follow with a demonstration of how to mix paints and apply them to a variety of substrates.  Everyone will be invited to get hands-on experience painting with natural, non-toxic paints for the remainder of the day.

WORKSHOP COVERS:

  • Overview of natural paints, including benefits and challenge
  • Demonstration on the art of mixing paints, including ingredients and their purpose, use of pigments, etc…
  • Ample hands-on experience painting on a variety of substrates
