What's Cookin'

There are many great recipes and cookbooks for preparing foods
fresh from the garden or farmer’s market. We are just discovering what is out there.
Here are some of our favorite recipes plus some resources for
bringing the farm to the table.
As we learn, look for more recipes and tips from our kitchen on our Taproot Farm Journal blog.

Some Favorite Recipes

Most often we just bring in a harvest from the garden and improvise. Soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, local eggs, feta cheese and the Wok are staples for our stir fry concoctions.
Sometimes we serve over rice and beside potatoes
or throw in some local chicken, beef or lamb for meat lovers.

But when we do turn to a recipe, in addition to many in the cookbooks above, these are a few favorites.
Some are directly from Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal,Vegetable, Miracle book.

Four Seasons Potato Salad

Tomato Sauce - Tim’s favorite for canning!

Vegetable Panini

Spinach Lasagna

Ratatouille

Slow Cook Apples - Love the smell of them cooking all day!

Stewed Tomatoes

Tomato and Black Bean Salsa

Zucchini Choc. Chip Cookies

Butternut, Squash and Apple Soup

Cream of Pumpkin SoupYummy comfort food.

Gazpacho SoupGreat on a summer day.

Minestrone Soup - Family favorite. Freezes well.

Plum Tomato Soup - Love this fresh taste!

No Knead Bread - Add whatever herbs are in the garden or chopped, floured dried fruit. I increase this to 1  1/2 times the recipe- at that size the crust is crisp and the center is soft and springy. Perfect!

Zucchini Bread - Recipe shared generously by the market stand down the road. :-) Best I’ve had. Great during early summer when zucchini is coming out of your ears- bake a bunch and freeze.

Fruit Muffins- Wonderful, moist muffin- vary the ingredients according to fruits of the season.
