Welcome to Taproot Farm!

We are creating a small-scale, eventually sustainable, farm here in Capon Bridge, West Virginia. After 25 years of living, working and raising a family in Arlington, Virginia, we have returned to Tim’s home state to settle on the banks of the Cacapon River. Farm life is new and exciting for us and there is much to learn.

Our 20-acre farm is young – we are still building the infrastructure and soils.  But even still, we have already enjoyed many successes (and challenges) growing vegetables, flowers, fruit trees, berries and herbs in our garden.  After our first year, we introduced free-range chickens, honey bees and lambs. Our goal is to develop a small-scale farm that operates in an organic, interdependent way- utilizing natural systems, not chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

We hope our efforts add some positive momentum to the Local Food movement and assist in improving the Earth’s health.  On Taproot Farm, we are living a much simpler life- enjoying the natural pace of our days and letting nature be our guide.

Our farm (and this website) are a “work in progress”.  We hope you will enjoy watching us grow and have a chance to visit us regularly on the web or in person.

Everything is here to be happy on earth.
We have snow and every day a new morning.
We have trees and rain, hope and tears.
We have humus and oxygen,
Animals and all the colors.
We have distant lands and bicycles.
We have sun and shadow.
We are rich.
